Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing Veronica Ramos, owner of V Organic Café in Upton, MA. The first couple times I’d visited the Café I was impressed by the clean and calming atmosphere as well as the delicious organic food. When I asked Veronica what was the primary motivating factor for opening her business in 2012, she answered, “To promote and educate others on what we call the V Organic Lifestyle, which includes a healthier non-GMO/organic diet and lifestyle from the food we eat to the personal care products we use, by providing information and products that support those attempting to live the same lifestyle.”
Veronica was an art teacher by formal education and training but one of her passions was food preparation and the art of eating well. She admits her food mentors “were my grandmother Olympia, my mama Francesca and my aunt Patricia.” When asked what it is she tries to give to her customers as a result of what she’s experienced in her own life, Veronica answered, “I try to give customers the opportunity to think differently about how they eat, food and ingredient sources, where the products they buy come from and what they can do to enrich their lives in a way which does not revolve around electronics or technology.
“We offer food, baked goods, a smoothie bar but also workshops, art classes and workshops, an eco boutique and cultural events. I really mean it when I state on our website that I aim to ‘feed your mind, body and soul’ and I want people to think about what that means in their lives and to feel nurtured and encouraged to live that way when they walk through the door.”
